Solo Solo #9 with Diemo Schwarz, Claude Parle, Tiasci, Paris

Two solo permormances at cozy Tiasci with its delicious indian-inspired buffet and fabulous Ti-Punchs by Pascal Golem.

Inner Space by Christian Delecluse, DA-Fest, Sofia, Bulgaria

On show 15.–19.9.2015 at the international Digital Art Festival, organised by the National Academy of Art (NAA) in Sofia, Bulgaria

The light and sound installation Inner Space offers viewers a dual experience that questions the process of how we build our perceptions. First, viewers are welcomed to contemplate a dynamic room where beams of light move in sync with sound, constantly shifting the intensity of the space and allowing the viewer to be carried away into a hypnotic trance. The piece offers a behind-the-scenes look where viewers observe the mechanical aspects of the project, with its low-tech counterweight mechanism and rough structural reinforcements. The spatial changes proposed by the installation occur randomly in real time, producing a succession of contrasting perceptions, switching between order and disorder, between determinism and chance, between mind control and letting go. Second ONCEIM recording: Gruidés by Stephen O’Malley

Second recording by ONCEIM of Stephen O’Malley’s piece Gruidés out on beautiful blue vinyl on Demdike Stare’s DDS label:

A technically demanding and richly rewarding longform drone piece intently focussed on harmonic experimentation and overtone study, yielding a gloaming spectra of eliding dissonance rent in sliding tone clusters and lucent geometries punctuated by whipcrack percussion.

First ONCEIM recording: Morph by Bertrand Denzler

First recording by ONCEIM of Bertrand Denzler’s piece Morph on Confront Recordings collectors series ccs 37 was out in February:
Morph is based on the same principle as “Horns 1.2” (CCS 38). It’s a “pseudo-drone” piece, the overall sound of the ensemble or orchestra being structured by the decisions the musicians have to take in order to keep this sound alive while moving in a small, pre-established musical perimeter.

The second iteration of a light and sound installation, Inner Space offers viewers a dual experience that questions the process of how we build our perceptions. Ircam Live with duo Hans Leeuw / Diemo Schwarz at Gaîté Lyrique, Paris

The duo of Hans Leeuw (Electrumpet) / Diemo Schwarz (CataRT) has been chosen as one of 4 winners of the Ircam Forum call for performances (out of 85 submissions) and will be presented in concert:

Ircam Live @ la Gaîté lyrique

also playing: Plaid (Warp), Lorenzo Bianchi, Benjamin Carey, Jean Lochard

Gaîté Lyrique, grande salle
3bis, rue Papin
75003 Paris

The duo between Hans Leeuw and Diemo Schwarz creates a dialectic between the age-old gesture of the musician and its digital transformation and critique, a pathway between the acoustic instrument and a recontextualising synthetic interaction at the heart of our times. The duo’s focus on expressive play with live sounds happens in two very different ways that happily blend together: Read the rest of this entry »

Hertzquelle (50Hz source) programmed at ICMC, Ljubljana

Hertzquelle (50Hz source) was selected to be played in the acousmatic music program of the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC 2012) in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The piece Hertzquelle (50Hz source) reveals the very source of the ubiquitous hum of 50Hz that surrounds everyone of us, everywhere, everytime.  It can be heard from alarm clocks perturbing the nightly silence, from power adapters that are never switched off, when you touch a blank audio cable, or from badly ground-lifted amplifiers.
This is where it is all coming from, the very place where the world-wide hum originates to radiate all around the earth, tuning the world to its frequency. Read the rest of this entry »

Outprovisation — Improvisation with Live-Recorded Environmental Sound at ICMC, Huddersfield

ICMC 2011 Late Night Concert 2, Students’ Union, Huddersfield, UK

Outprovisation breaks the tyranny of the instant and fragments the unity of time and place, by improvising with unpredictable live streams from the vicinity of the concert venue: the bar, a park, the street, a shopping mall…
It enlarges at the same time the temporal horizon, the loci of presence, and the sonic space, doubling it by the abstract space of transformed sounds. Read the rest of this entry »

Using the films created by Marion Delage de Luget and Benoît Géhanne like a musical score, Diemo Schwarz and Frédéric Blondy composed pieces that follow a trajectory, a predetermined evolution, within which the playing thrives freely, based on listening to the produced sound and to the resonance with the performance space.
